  : there was nobody at the reception, i had to go to the hotel accross the street to check in/out. this is the first time that a hotel asks for a deposit. i have never experienced that before. the water pot in the room was not clean, there was stagnant (very old) water inside, it has a smell of rotten fish, i would have reported it but there was nobody at the reception. the scrambled eggs during breakfast was literally swimming in water. considering the location is in italy, the coffee was AWFUL!

  : It was walking distance to the old town
  : No star rating at the hotel it was blocked out and I can see why. Limited reception had to go across the road to another hotel No security didn't feel safe at night door open anyone could enter. No facilities at the accommodation. Bar was also across the road. It was run down with plastic furniture on the way in and dirty old rattan furniture with dirty cushions. Staff extremely unhelpful and typically rude this was the norm in Italy.

  : Had to go back and forth across the street several times, bad set up! Only one key the powered all room that was connected to air conditioning. The room was on the third floor so when we arrived in the afternoon the room was extremely hot! For the money we paid we should have a least gotten a colder room in such hot weather. Electricity went out in whole building causing us to feel our way in the dark until the power was restored!

  : Location excellent because there was easy access to swim in the lake and it was 10 minute walk to the old town. Smeraldo is opposite its sister hotel La Paul, where check-in/out was located, along with a restaurant/bar, other facilities, and access to lake on that side. We preferred the access to the lake at Smeraldo though, but enjoyed going across to La Paul to see the sunset over the lake. Breakfast in Smeraldo's dining room was pleasant, and there was a good choice of buffet items such as scrambled egg, bacon, delicious ripe tomatoes, bread, cold meats and cheeses, cereals, cakes, fruit etc. We had a lovely lake view from our balcony (family room for 3, first floor). The balcony had room for a table and two chairs, and a clothes horse to dry towels/clothes, which was very handy. The room had a pleasant decor, comfortable mattresses, and a large wardrobe with a safe. Our room was air conditioned, which was essential, and it also had a fridge for our use. We preferred swimming in the lake from our Smeraldo access, rather than the public beach in Sirmione as it was more convenient for us. We did not use the public beach, but it looked lovely when we were sightseeing, with sandy areas that not all locations around the lake have. We would recommend staying at Smeraldo, and we would certainly stay there again if we were able to have the lake view again, on the 1st or 2nd floor.
  : The shower cubicle/bathroom was small, but adequate. We didn't know how much the tourist tax would be, which was a cause for concern as the range we were told was very broad (thankfully it was on the lower-end of the scale, but still an expense to consider) - it would be very useful if this was stated in advance somewhere. The hotel did have a power outage one evening, but this lasted only for 10 minutes.
