  : great location with amazing views overlooking the fields. be aware that the hotel restaurant is closed on Mondays. we were really looking forward to eating at the hotel site, as it is located a 10-minute car drive from the city, however, it was unfortunately closed the night we spent at the hotel.

  : I had booked a one night stay as an overnight stop on the return journey from Austria, influenced very much by a comment from a previous guest. After a day behind the wheel on the autobahns, I was looking forward to the peaceful setting with views over the Main river and the good food in the restaurant. But unfortunately this review has two parts - the good and the not so good! This is the good part. The location is indeed superb. A quiet oasis amid acres of vineyards with superb views in every direction. The hotel complex includes a church and it looks as if it might have been a convent or a monastery in the past, which makes it a wonderful venue for a wedding - but see below. A new block has been built, about which guests will have their own opinion, but to me it could have been designed to blend in a bit better with the older buildings around it. Having said that, the terrace, the restaurant, the standard of rooms are all first class. The food in the restaurant is superb - I will remember the tomato soup for a very long time!
  : This bit is the not so good! I had booked to stay at Vogelsburg back in January as an overnight stopover on the journey back from Oberammergau and Austria. All my plans were in place and I was already in Germany travelling south when I got an email from Vogelsburg, just twelve days before I was due to stay there, to say that the restaurant would be closed on the night I was going to be there because of "an event" They recommended a restaurant in Volkach. They did also say that they might be able to provide something to eat if I didn't want to eat out but indicated it might not be what they would normally offer. I expressed my disappointment at being told this so late, once I was already travelling and to be fair they did eventually allow me to choose from the full menu, albeit about a week in advance. And the meal was indeed very good. The "event" was a lovely family wedding, but it did rather take over the public spaces, the terrace etc. and I didn't like to intrude on their occasion. There was also another "event" taking place somewhere else on the premises, namely some kind of business group that rolled up in two coaches. I don't think this involved a sit down meal and wouldn't have been a problem had it been the only event taking place. What I am very concerned about is that I was only told that the event was raking place 12 days before I was due to stay there, when I had booked my stay six months previously. I'm sure the family event had been booked quite some time before so why could I have not been advised of the situation sooner? As I was travelling by myself, the thought of having to drive to a restaurant in Volkach, however good it might be, was not at all appealing. Earlier notification of the situation would have given me the time to find an alternative hotel.
