  : The staff were pleasant, friendly and attentive and the breakfast was lovely. The location is incredibly good if you need to be in the centre of Hitchin.
  : The hotel is an old building and it's pretty run down. When I closed the window there was a gap between it and the window frame, and the windows in general were falling apart. The carpets in the corridors are stained in places and look very worn out. My room was in the attic and the bathroom ceiling was so slanted I could not stand up in it. It would be very difficult for an elderly person to have stayed in that room. Also, there was a locked door in my bathroom that appeared to back directly onto another room, which meant I could hear everything from their bathroom crystal clear. I could hear what they were saying and hear the videos they were watching on their phone. I don't this arrangement works you need more than a locked door separating one room from another. It's an old building with a lot of character and that's a good thing but Greene King needs to invest serious time and money into upgrading this place. The staff are fine but the state of the building lets down the overall experience. This site has the potential to be an incredible hotel but it so obviously needs investment. The Full English breakfast I ordered was very good indeed but the side table was a bit lacking. There was only filter coffee and it wasn't that hot. There were two fruit juices (not chilled) but no water, so I had to ask for water separately. Normally in hotels you get cold water along with juices at breakfast so you don't have to ask for it. Accor and Premier Inn do it, for example.
