  : Nice position and a nice hotel. Room was large enough to have a seating area, and a nice sea view. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was very fresh and tasty, with a wide unlimited choice - ordered food, not a buffet.
  : The room was rather warm at night, despite the radiator being turned off and cold.

  : food, service and the staff, all excellent. Location very good. Could walk to the Botanic gardens and the hidden under cliff.
  : Our room was ill lit with brown furniture and needed a revamp as did the long grey corridor leading to it.

Disappointing

  : Service and food good though portions of food, as is the trend with haute cuisine, too small, so final night had to eat in 'The Spyglass' pub on the seafront where the meals were a more varied selection, just as good and a third of the price. The two 'scoops' of chocolate ice cream I had for one dessert, at 'The Royal', were the most expensive scoops I have ever had and the two would not equal one half scoop of ice cream in most restaurants. This seems overcharging on a grand scale
  : Heating not working in first room we booked. next day we changed rooms and again heating not working. Then an outside mechanic arrived and told us controls for Winter not adjusted or turned on so he had to do this . Then heating still not working so we had to yet again have an electirc heater brought up to us. My partner had just had operation so the cold room in Winter and worry about heating especially not helpful. At over 200 a night this was more unacceptable than cheap hotels though in any hotel one would expect heat to be on in the middle of November

  : Always walked past and thought love to stay there... so treated myself and friend. Breakfast pricey but gorgeous. Interior on whole lovely but few areas (ceiling) got cracks and waterdamage. Gardens offer restful areas (though as rainy Nov did not sit out)
  : A few areas of decor need redoing.. ceiling cracks and water damage . But nothing else wrong

  : The service and staff were exceptional. Such pleasant and positive people. And the food was brilliant.

  : Comfortable,relaxing,quiet location. Staff very friendly and helpful.
  : Being a dog owner we were aware we would be eating at the entrance and conservatory area, unfortunately the breakfast service was totally disappointing as there was little or no coordination from taking the order to delivery to our table. 45 minutes from ordering to table delivery not acceptable.

  : Having a dietary requirement being coeliac, i was very well looked after by the chefs with no side effects. It gave me confidence in eating at the restaurant. The room was comfortable and clean.
