  : The staff was OK.
  : Everything else was horrible. We had the worst experience here. We have no clue why this hotel has high ratings and we do not understand why it was awarded a 8.1. Please be mindful that some people have the same experience as us, but you need to check the lowest scored reviews to see. We booked the last available room, which was a triple room. Please understand that for the same price per night, we booked several apartments (!!) with a kitchen and spot clean, in Madeira. When we arrived, the staff was friendly but a bit cold. The hotel had a musty old smell. The furniture in the hallways was very outdated, dusty, antique and not even matching. There were left over Christmas decorations. The carpets in the hallways were stained. The room was nt clean. Hair in the bath tub, corn on the floor, stains in the carpet. The room had the same weird smell. Water damage was visible on the walls. Several pieces of furniture were broken. There was no safe, and the door to the balcony not lock because the system was broken. Yet they hang a paper that they are not resposible for stolen goods. There was a super small bin only in the bathroom. We were with only 2 people but for 3 people it would have been worse. There was n toilet seat on the toilet. The room felt like it was completely stripped from all utilities. The breakfast room had loudly squeeking machines, the coffee machine there was out of use half of the time during the breakfast. They ran out of a lot of options halfway through breakfast time. The staff looked rushed, unhappy and like it was just too much for them. The fitness area was wet and musty, there was water damage on the weights, on the abdominal exercise mat. The pool area has a way too heavy chlorine smell and looks outdated. The advertised jacuzzi is out of use indefinitely and "covered" but one can easily look underneath and see that it is covered with dirt and mould. The whole hotel feels like ghost town. We recommend not staying here.
