  : The manager was efficient and businesslike and spoke good English. The housekeeper was more friendly and did her best, given our limited common language, to explain things to us. The beds were comfortable and the room was always clean and well tended. There is a useful supermarket just across the road. The archaeological park is close by; do get a combined ticket and see some of the many amazing finds in the archaeological museum too. The striking pointed church is a good landmark for finding your way back to the hotel.
  : There are plenty of bars and cafes in this area, always somewhere to get a snack, but no real restaurants. It is quite a walk into Ortigia but there you have a huge choice. It is worth finding out about the local shuttle bus at one of the very helpful tourist offices there. It runs later than the red tourist bus and can work out cheaper at 1 euro per trip.
