Tenuta del Gelso

Very Good

: Excellent position for the airport / very friendly and willing staff / nice breakfast / beautiful smell of orange & lemon blossom
: As on the flight path to the airport and major roads there is obviously plane & traffic noise but planes stop from midnight until 06.00 and traffic reduced at night but to be expected due to location.

  : Dinner was nice
: The suite had an extremely uncomfortable, hard bed which felt worse than if we had slept on a tatami mat.

Wonderful

: Location close to the airport and the grandeur, beauty and history of the house and grounds. Very friendly and helpful when we were late and tired from our flight (thank you Danilo). Plus the Estates own wine was delicious.
  : Nothing.

: A beautiful property set very close to Catania airport. The hospitality is top notch and they provide a very good breakfast.
: The room where we stayed needs some TLC such as a toilet seat and a broken and twisted blind by the main door.

: It was a secure location with controlled access via electric gates.
: Very noisy as its on the airport flight path. Breakfast was very basic. Only went 2 mornings of the 4 and the last visit was pretty awful. Had to ask for breadrequested tea and got some warm water in a cup with a tea bag, and then also had to ask for a glass of orange and milk for the tea. Wifi was hit and miss and the room very dated.

: Great conversion of an old wine processing facility, with tons of character, dining amongst the presses, family pictures on the walls, rooms with a story (I stayed in the Senatore room, which is allegedly where the owners of the vineyard used to stay. Super spacious and clean). We had some meetings in the courtyard, and coffee and water service was excellent. Like everywhere in Sicily the coffee was sublime. Staff were super friendly and helpful with everything. We had dinner one night (on arrival) which was authentic and prepared and served with love. The wines were excellent.
: Wifi coverage was below par, which is difficult if you try to use the Tenute as a base to do some business trips from. Breakfast was probably typical Sicilian, but not enough fruit for my liking, lots of sweet cakes and savory tarts. Selection of meats and cheese was limited. Close to the airport, with some (limited) airplane noise on the approach.

Disappointing

: Nice location and friendly staff.
: During check in I asked for information on the possibility of having lunch and dinner in the structure, I was told that the restaurant would remain closed because "the chef has left" and the remaining staff could prepare pasta with tomato sauce or sandwiches but nothing more. I would have expected good restaurant service. The room was spacious, the bed and pillows were old and very uncomfortable. The infinity of woodlices present inside the room and the bathroom which appeared every morning like a carpet was quite annoying. The property is very noisy due the proximity with airport. Very limited breakfast choice. Definitely too expensive for the service provided.

: Location near the airport. Authentic place
: Very basic room. One day is enough. Beyond that, there is no change of towels for the next day, this is the policy of the place

Wonderful

: Beautiful location and great staff.

: Relaxed country atmosphere. Pool was good. Chose this because of proximity to the airport for a morning flight, that worked well.
