  : We had booked into a Beaupreau hotel in the same group glad to find a delightful former Logis open on the bank holiday. Sadly the booking.com address took us into Cholet where a jolly receptionist could hardly contain his laughter as he chuckled, 'This often happens' to our total disbelief. He explained that we would have to drive another 20kms as the other hotel had already taken our money.
  : Any lingering hopes were dashed upon arrival at Beaupreau where we found a deserted car park and a motel-like building with shutters firmly closed. Upon closer inspection, we found one unlocked door which led to a locked door. No amount of knocking could rouse a member of staff. Was this a re-enactment of 'Macbeth'? And then we saw keys hanging tantalisingly in a locked display case with a phone number. Were we involved in some variation of a Budapest Escape Game where the prize was to gain entry? Once inside, we regretted entry as we discovered deserted gloomy corridors and various doors leading to gloomier rooms with more shuttered windows. We made a brief escape to the nearby Le Bistrot d'Anjou where we enjoyed fabulous food and lightning quick service. That was the only highlight of the day!

  : It was cheap
  : The pictures make this look very cheerful, but the reality is that it was fully closed down on a Friday in June, dark, all the shutters closed, long internal dark hallways on sensor lights that didn't always turn on, dated room, no curtains, only external shutters so your room is either completely in darkness or open to everything. As a solo female traveler places like this make me feel unsafe and i wish I'd known when booking that it was a dead shell.
